OpenStack
Open Source Cloud Computing Infrastructure
OpenStack is an open source cloud computing platform that controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources to build and manage private and public clouds. OpenStack is the open source cloud computing standard to support virtual machines, containers and bare metal workloads, all managed and provisioned through APIs with common authentication mechanisms.
With our extensive experience we can help you implementing your own Openstack Computing Clouds, either using existing infrastructure or creating it from the ground up, by selecting the most appropriate infrastructure for your application. Some of the benefits of using Openstack over other proprietary alternatives are:
Flexible Hardware Requiriments
OpenStack, is not just designed to run on any hardware, also supports hyper-converged architecture, where control, compute, network and storage services are distributed across all nodes in the cluster, which make the cluster more resilient, and ensures optimal utilization of resources because all physical machines in the cluster can be based on the same hardware specification, helping lowering the costs associated with hardware purchasse.
Resilient Data Storage
Ceph provides a software-defined, massively scalable and distributed data store built from commodity hardware components that provides block, file, and object storage.
It’s built to be self-healing and self-managing, to reduce the costs and complexity of maintaining the storage infrastructure.
Ceph ensures against data loss by storing replicas across the cluster making it resilient to hardware failures.
Data Encryption
A modern system requires access to a multitude of secrets: database credentials, API keys, credentials block storage, etc. HCP Vault is a widely used Encryption-as-a-Service solution that supports centralized key management and key rotation to ensure cryptographic best practices.
High Availavility
OpenStack provides HA-enabled applications, resistant to disruptions affecting its other cluster members. That is, such a disruption would have no impact on both client requests to the application and the application itself.
Low TCO
Migrating from VMware to OpenStack can significantly reduce the associated TCO associated. Economic analysis shows that it is possible to bring the costs down by an entire order of magnitude with distributions like Canonical’s Charmed OpenStack.
